Disabled Blackpool nurse continues essential work thanks to TGA mobility scooter from MobilitySure
Despite having severe difficulties walking, Janet Bellis, 57 from Blackpool, has been able to continue working as a Senior Diabetes Nurse thanks to an indispensible TGA mobility scooter from local specialist MobilitySure.
Janet has worked for the NHS for over 30 years in a variety of nursing roles including Ward Sister and in her current role helping patients with diabetes. She is a highly respected member of staff at the Blackpool Victoria hospital operated by the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is extremely passionate about her work. However over the last 18 months her Psoriatic Arthritis has become increasingly worse leading to difficulties moving around the hospital. As her day-to-day role involves visiting wards and clinics regularly that are a considerable distance from her diabetes unit, Janet has had to look at a mobility solution to continue her career. Her chosen mobility scooter, a compact and manoeuvrable TGA Eclipse from us here at MobilitySure, has resolved all of her mobility problems at the hospital and on a social level.
Janet explains: “I love my role as a Diabetes Nurse as it is so varied. I am responsible for helping lots of people who live with diabetes, from advising on insulin injections through to monitoring blood sugar levels. I offer counselling to people recently diagnosed, training to doctors and support to families. When my role changed from assisting people visiting our diabetes unit to going out to see them in wards and clinics, my mobility problems held me back. I spoke to my Matron, Human Resources and my Union Representative to see if there was anyway I could use a mobility scooter in the hospital to continue my work. Without this, redeployment was looking a distinct possibility, which I really didn’t want. Following a comprehensive review of safety and my scooter insurance, the go-ahead was given and I now have the freedom to access the whole hospital thanks to my TGA Eclipse.”
Janet continues: “As my 4mph Eclipse is compact and easy-to-drive, I can move around the hospital corridors and in and out of lifts safely and without hassle. What a difference it has made and I am so happy Blackpool Victoria Hospital management has supported me on this. Guy and Anita from MobilitySure have also been so helpful ever since I visited their showroom with my friend who also has a disability. I explained the kind of scooter I needed and they advised an Eclipse would be ideal. I even have a clever car boot hoist from Autochair to lift my scooter in and out of the car. I’d seen the TGA Eclipse in lots of ads before and really liked the look of it, plus my one has more powerful batteries for extra range around the hospital. Without it I’d be lost, especially when tackling the large car park and visiting some of the wards and clinics that can be some considerable distance away. My TGA Eclipse and MobilitySure have ensured I can carry on with my beloved job thank goodness.”
Since establishing our new mobility business in 2013, we have been able to provide independence to large numbers of locals, such as Janet, living with restricted mobility. It fills us with great pride to see how one of our TGA Eclipse’s has changed Janet’s lifestyle and career. We only supply proven, reliable products and the TGA Eclipse mobility scooter is no exception with its high quality finish and excellent, comfortable ride. For Janet to be able to continue as a nurse was absolutely essential to her and through this TGA scooter, she can carry on improving the lives of so many locals living with diabetes.
Awarded best ‘funky design’ by Good Housekeeping ‘tried and tested’ the Rolser shopping trolley has arrived. Wheeled shoppers – the answer to green grocery shopping.
If you can get over the old fashioned image associated with wheeled shopping bags, they really are the most sensible answer to avoiding a mountain of plastic bags and a good way of limiting the quantity of food you buy, cutting down on waste. Not only are they now available in some eye catching designs but some can fold so small you can tuck them under your arm or keep them in the boot of your car. The Rolser range is on display in our showroom now.
Also available is the Sholley Trolley, a proven winner with its traditional design and latest styles and is now on view in our showroom.

When using a walking stick, not everybody realises the importance of the ferrules they are using. Not only that the wrong ferrules can wear out very quickly but they can also cause back aches.
We think we might have the perfect solution for customers who are looking for improved, good quality, flexible ferrules.
Flexyfoot was invented by product designer David Goodwin, who’s inspiration came from very personal experiences with rubber feet that wore down too easily and were very difficult to change. Realising there was a need for walking aids of all types to be sporty and smart, David developed a flexible, safe and comfortable alternative to the humble walking stick ferrule.
While standard ferrules don’t bend and can’t grip, Flexyfoot bends in order to grip the surface offering a little bit more stability. The two separate parts include a collar and a pleated bellows. These combined together give you several benefits a standard ferrule couldn’t offer, like absorbing the shock of impact from constantly placing the stick into contact with the ground (thereby reducing stress on your wrists and arms), offering superior grip on slippery surfaces and increasing your range of movement. The flexible bellows absorb shock each time the stick touches the ground so the users step is completely cushioned and reduces the jarring pain in the arms, shoulders, wrists, elbows, back and neck.
When worn or damaged the ‘foot’ section is easily replaced without changing the whole Flexyfoot.
Even though we only recently started stocking this brilliant product, our customers are already taken by them and they think it’s the best thing that ever happened to their walking sticks! We can also show you crutches and walking sticks from this same company, all equipped with Flexyfoot ferrules.

Our congratulations go out to Steve Tarrant after completing his 24 hour world record for the longest distance on a TGA Breeze mobility scooter. Before starting, the tyres were filled with TGA’s brand new puncture sealant, then pierced and remarkably Steve managed to achieve the distance with the tyres intact.
See the amazing TGA Breeze here at MobilitySure and arrange to have the tyre sealant system fitted to your Scooter
Steve Tarrant, 53 from Poole, riding the TGA Breeze S4 at Goodwood 2014 and meeting Lewis Hamilton at The Speedway Ring at Peterborough Arena 2012
Steve Tarrant, 53 from Poole, is a remarkable disabled motorsport marshal, who has achieved a new World Record at Goodwood Motor Circuit, Chichester, by driving a TGA mobility scooter the furthest distance ever in 24 hours.
Steve became disabled following a serious motorsport accident in 2000 that resulted in the loss of a leg and multiple injuries. He has managed to rebuild his life after this near tragic experience and continues to marshal internationally at events such as Le Mans 24 Hours and Petit Le Mans, Atlanta. Steve was also a medal bearing Games Maker during the Olympics and Paralympics that led to a Big Society Award from David Cameron.
Steve completed his epic world record challenge on Sunday 18th May at 6pm following 24-hours of driving a TGA Breeze S4 GT mobility scooter around a pre-determined course at Goodwood. Steve achieved a world record-breaking distance of 190.2 miles (306.1km) by driving through the night and completing over 1,800 laps of a 167m circuit, only stopping briefly for battery changes. Pending ratification, Steve will have smashed the current distance of 170.63 miles (274.60km) to officially hold a new Guinness World Record™ for ‘The Greatest distance covered in 24 hours by a mobility scooter’.
This awe-inspiring effort by Steve in terms of his determination and stamina, has been heightened further by the engineering achievement of TGA. Not only did the TGA Breeze deliver 100% reliability and extraordinary battery range, it completed the course with purposely-punctured tyres to demonstrate the effectiveness of TGA’s new sealant system. This pioneering solution can be pre-injected into any scooter with pneumatic tyres and seals the majority of punctures up to 6mm in the tread area. This optional protection system can be specified on all TGA scooters with pneumatic tyres and is available free to A-Class retailers.
Steve comments: “Firstly, I would to thank TGA Mobility and its onsite engineers for all their outstanding support; Goodwood Motor Circuit and Lord March for hosting the event; and all my dedicated pit crew. I am also appreciative of all the donations that have been received for my designated charity during the challenge – Macmillan Cancer Support. The last 24 hours have been truly unforgettable for me and ever though it was grueling at times, I never had any doubts that I would achieve this new world record.”
Steve continues: “This is the second time I have attempted the record and this experience has once again been a test of endurance. I have to say though the overall comfort, performance and stability of the Breeze scooter was impeccable as ever and the puncture sealant is absolutely unbelievable. To have driven over a bed of nails before the start and not experienced any loss of tyre pressure in 24 hours, proves how outstanding the TGA puncture sealant system is on many levels.”
Steve concluded: “After now completing the further distance ever for the second time, I am done with this world record. In the words of Steve Redgrave after winning his fourth rowing Olympic gold medal: ‘If you ever catch me near one of these again, shoot me’ – only joking! I now intend to focus on continuing to talk, present and educate regarding motorsport and disability whilst potentially planning a new world record attempt in 2015 – John O’Groats to Land’s End in the shortest time ever. I am currently looking for commercial sponsors so I can develop my plans further that ultimately are designed to raise awareness of disability and enhance equality.”
Daniel Stone, TGA’s Managing Director added: “On behalf of TGA, I would like to thoroughly congratulate Steve on this monumental achievement. Once again Steve has demonstrated steely determination whilst highlighting the market-leading reliability of our Breeze S4 mobility scooter and the phenomenal effectiveness of TGA puncture sealant. Thanks to Goodwood for working with us on this and I’m sure Steve will now go onto even greater success in terms of promoting achievement with disability.”

TGA is delighted to unveil the larger 4-wheel version of the pioneering ‘Minimo’, with the new folding 8mph ‘Maximo’! Thanks to our excellent continuing relationship with TGA we are now able to provide you with their newest mobility scooter.
The new Maximo promises to deliver even higher levels of consumer interest than those associated with its smaller predecessor, the Minimo. Introduction of the Minimo represented the beginning of a new genre of compact, folding car boot scooter that provides greater levels of transportability and flexibility. Its optional lightweight lithium battery (only 2.65kgs) is a true groundbreaking development that can be lifted by a single finger and continues to be available with the Maximo. The Maximo now builds on these outstanding fundamentals to provide a larger, 4-wheel version with greater 17.5 stone (115kg) user weight capacity and an even better driving experience. With more range, features and comfort, the Maximo now combines all the benefits of a collapsible car boot scooter with a larger standard 8mph model. The TGA Maximo can be folded into a compact size with a single, one-handed operation and requires no parts to be dismantled for storage. Despite its larger size, the Maximo can be easily stored in the boot of an estate car or 4×4 for wider owner freedom with no hassle at all. From high visibility, low energy LED lights to a fully adjustable, folding orthopedic seat, the Maximo combines an impressive range of characteristics – all engineered with a precision, quality finish.
The TGA Maximo will be available to customers this summer, prices to be announced soon!
